BAE Systems is set to expand its workforce with more than 2,400 new apprentices, graduates, and undergraduates in 2025, as part of its record £1 billion investment in skills and education since 2020. This recruitment surge will see a total of 6,500 young people in training, equivalent to 15% of the company’s UK workforce.
Expanding Career Pathways Across the UK
From the North of England to Scotland and Wales, BAE Systems is offering early careers roles in engineering, cyber security, software development, project management, and finance. These opportunities provide a pathway to work on groundbreaking projects, including the Global Combat Air Programme and SSN-AUKUS submarines.
Charles Woodburn, Chief Executive of BAE Systems, commented:
“Investing in people is fundamental to our success. With thousands of roles available across the country, now is the perfect time to start a career with us and be part of the team driving the future of defence innovation.”
A Strategic Commitment to Growth
BAE Systems will spend £230 million on education and skills in 2025 alone, solidifying its role as a leader in building the UK’s industrial skills base. The company’s investment supports critical national defence programmes while contributing to local and national economic growth.
John Healey, Secretary of State for Defence, highlighted the importance of this initiative:
“BAE Systems’ investment underpins the UK’s position as a global leader in cutting-edge industries. This creates highly skilled jobs, strengthens national security, and supports economic stability.”
Championing Diversity and Inclusion
BAE Systems is leading the way in promoting diversity in STEM careers. In 2025, 30% of apprenticeships are expected to be filled by women, double the UK industry average, while a third of graduate hires already come from ethnic minority backgrounds.
First-year Electrical Engineering Apprentice Francesca Di Mascio shared her experience:
“Doing an apprenticeship at BAE Systems has given me the chance to work in a hands-on environment where I feel valued. It’s an incredible way to earn while you learn and be part of something bigger.”
State-of-the-Art Training Facilities
The company has expanded its training footprint with the opening of a new skills academy in Glasgow, joining existing centres in Barrow and Samlesbury. These academies provide innovative training for future leaders and skilled professionals.
How to Apply
Applications for apprenticeships close on 28 February 2025, with graduate positions available throughout the year.
