Book Launch and Exhibition - East India Company Spice War Stories

This book is the culmination of a unique heritage fiction writing project in East London by Brick Lane Circle that started in May 2022.

It aimed to generate broad interest in learning about the early 17th-century Anglo-Dutch Spice Wars history and their impacts in Asia and Europe. The project recruited more than a dozen individuals from diverse backgrounds as community participants and supported them in learning about and fictionalising aspects of this little-known but important history.

The participants explored how the demands for the spices of Asia - for consumption and the vast profits they could generate - drove several European nations to the Indian Ocean world and engage in conflicts and wars of conquest to secure the valuable and highly sought-after spices.
